Website Name (domain name)
Will I own my website name?
Yes – the name of your website is called the Domain Name and you will always own this, regardless of the Service Plan that you choose.
What if I don't have a website name?
If you don’t already own a Domain Name for your business then we can purchase one on your behalf. We will help you choose a suitable name – bearing in mind that sometimes your ideal Domain Name may already be taken, so a bit of flexibility/ingenuity may be required.
What if I already have a website name?
No problem, we will work with you to transfer the name to our hosting environment as part of the set up process.
Where will my website be hosted?
We work with a professional hosting company based in South Africa. Every website is hosted on a state of the art server that is configured specifically for websites to provide speed, security and maximum up-time.
Which Service Plan should I choose?
Your website is a business tool. So you need to match the tool to the needs of your business. A website can perform many roles – it can:
- Provide basic information – who you are, where you are
- Showcase your products or services with photographs – individually or in a gallery
- Explain your history, values or biography
- Enable prospective customers to communicate with you by email, social media or direct chat
- Contain information or articles that you want to share with the world – a blog
- Show customer reviews and testimonials
- List commonly asked questions – the FAQs
- Receive orders and sell products – e-commerce
Tell me more about your Bronze Service Plan
Our Bronze Service Plan provides a single home page that scrolls down through its information. This is known as a Scrolling Landing Page.
A Scrolling Landing Page website is perfect for a business that wants a web presence to provide basic information about itself and its products, show where it is located, how to get in touch and enable the visitor to send an email message.
This Service Plan is great for businesses with a limited budget that are either small or starting up. Equally, if your business is established and a Scrolling Landing Page ticks all the boxes, why pay more for your online presence?
Tell me more about your Silver Service Plan
Our Silver Service Plan expands on the concept of a Scrolling Landing Page by providing additional pages where more space can be devoted to important topics such as About Us, Contact Us, Products/Services or Gallery of photographs. Having more space available makes for an easier visitor experience. It could all be fitted on a Scrolling Landing Page, but it would be one long scroll to the bottom!
This Service Plan is great for an established business that wants to expand on the information offered to its visitors or even a smaller business with a lot of product photographs that need to be showcased on a dedicated gallery page.
Tell me more about your Gold Service Plan
Our Gold Service Plan provides everything in the Silver Service Plan with the addition of a blog page.
A blog page is a much more interactive concept in that it is intended to be added to on a regular basis (Google loves new content). Through the blog, your business can publish articles on topics such as new product releases, how a product is made or how it can be used, new staff members, trends in your industry, and so on. There really is no limit to what you can place on your blog – it’s entirely down to how you want your business to be perceived by the outside world.
Did I say interactive? Well the blog doesn’t have to be one-way, if you choose, you can allow interested visitors to leave comments about your articles or join in a discussion about an article. If you really want to stretch the boundaries, you can allow visitors to post their own articles on your blog. Be warned though, doing this carries with it the need to moderate what is getting posted and things can get pretty time consuming. Used properly for your business, a blog can be a powerful marketing tool.
The Gold Service Plan also allows you to “self-service” adding new content such as gallery photographs and blog posts. This function requires a little bit of training, but once you have the hang of it, you can keep adding content when you want to.
This Service Plan is great for a business that wants to pursue an interactive marketing strategy &/or wants the freedom to add its own content.
Tell me more about your E-Shop Add-on
Our E-Shop Add-on takes any of the Service Plans to the next level to become an e-commerce store. Unlike a “brick & mortar” shop, an e-commerce store is not constrained by geography. With an e-commerce store you can literally offer your products for sale globally. Despite that, offering your products for sale online to local customers is still a great idea, because it creates the ultimate convenience for customers who don’t want to (or can’t) leave home.
There are a lot of moving parts to an e-commerce web site and so it requires more maintenance attention.
How do I upgrade to a different Service Plan?
If you decide to upgrade your Service Plan, please email us to let us know which Service Plan and layout you would like. You will then revisit the Content Inventory process to provide the additional content. When ready, the new website will replace the existing one and your rental price will also be upgraded.
Can I downgrade my Service Plan?
If you decide to downgrade your Service Plan, please email us to let us know which Service Plan and layout you would like. We will transfer your current content to your new website. When ready, the new website will replace the existing one. Your rental price will reflect the new Service Plan and any balance on your account will be used against the new rental price until used up. We will let you know when that is and send an invoice when a new payment is required.
Can I change my layout on the same Service Plan?
Yes you can, however you can only do so on the anniversary of your go live and yearly thereafter.
Website Templates & Setup
Which website template should I use?
Once you have decided which Service Plan you would like, you can choose any of the templates featured for that Service Plan. We have matched certain templates to different business types, but these are just suggestions. The choice is yours to make.
What changes can I make to the template?
The structure of the template won’t change, but it will be personalised for your business. This means that it will reflect your colour scheme/branding, your logo, your photographs, your text and contact details.
How do I know what content to provide?
We will provide you with a “Content Inventory” for your chosen layout and business type. The Content Inventory will detail:
- Size, format and resolution of the logo
- Each photograph with the topic that it should portray
- Each text paragraph with suggested topic and word count
The Content Inventory is designed merely as a guide to assist you; if your creative juices are flowing, please don’t feel restricted in what you want to say.
Can you replicate the content of my existing/old website?
That’s no problem, just let us know where to look. Remember, we won’t be able to replicate the layout – only the content.
What if I don't have a logo &/or branding?
You are welcome to design your own logo – there are many online apps that will help you make one. We will let you know the size, format and resolution required for your logo. If you are not sure on colour scheme/branding we can suggest suitable colours once you have your logo. If you would prefer to have this done professionally, we can refer you to our affiliate graphic designer who charges very reasonable prices.
What if I don't have any photos available?
Lack of photos isn’t a problem. To get started, you can take photos with your cell phone. Certain parts of your layout may be fine with “stock” photos, which can be sourced online – some are free and some have to be purchased. It is better to get your website up and running with what is to hand than hold it up waiting for “good” photos. Once up and running you can plan to obtain better quality &/or professional photos at a later date and we can swap them into the website during an update session. If you would like a professional photographer to visit, we can refer you to our affiliate photographer who can give you a quote.
What if I just don't know what text to write?
Remember, this is a business tool, not a novel! Go grab some pointers by looking at websites of similar businesses. Once inspired, put down the same messages in your own words. If you’re really stuck, tell us which bit of the content inventory is causing a problem and we can give you a nudge. If you would like a professional to write your text, we can refer you to our affiliate copy writer for a quote.
What if I want extra features and functionality in my template?
The purpose of our templates is that they are ready to go and so cannot be modified or added to. One of the reasons buying a website is so expensive is that a lot of time is taken to configure the exact features and functionality that the customer wants. If you really want features that we don’t have, then maybe renting a website is not right for you and your business. We are very happy to provide you with a quote to make a bespoke website just for you.
Can I change my template on the same Service Plan?
Yes you can, however you can only do so on the anniversary of your go live and yearly thereafter.
When will my website go live?
Your website will go live within 7 days of receipt of all of the content detailed in the Content Inventory, as well as receipt of the initial rental.
Do I get to check the website before it goes live?
Yes you do. In fact it is essential that you approve the website before it goes live. To the outside world it is your website – so you need to be happy with it.
Can I change or add content after the website is live?
Yes – your Service Plan allows for periodic amendments to the content. If you have changes to make, please let us know what they are and we will reflect them on the website on its scheduled update day.
Will my website work on handheld devices?
Yes – every website template is designed to adapt to whatever device it is viewed on – from PCs to tablets to smartphones. This type of website is known as responsive.
Will my website be picked up on a Google search?
Configuring your website so that it gets noticed by Google and included in a search for your product or service or location is known as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). We will configure your website with basic SEO so that Google will find it. However, there is no guarantee that Google will place your website at the top of the list (or indeed on the first page) if your product or service is particularly competitive in your location. Bear in mind that you will be in the search list and your competitors without a website will never be. The field of advanced SEO is a specialist field and requires its own budget to fund an expert to assist with configuration. Climbing the Google search rankings also takes time, so a continued online presence will help – it is not an instant result.
Will my website link to my social media accounts?
Yes – we can place social media buttons on your website to link your visitors to your social media accounts. Please indicate which ones you need to link to in the content inventory.
Payments & Cancellations
When do I pay?
Payment is made in advance. You can choose to pay monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly. We will email your invoice to you on the 25th of the month before your payment period begins. Payment must be made before the rental period starts.
Please note that the first 3 months must be paid up-front before going live.
How do I pay?
You can pay your rental by credit card or electronic funds transfer (EFT). We will email you an invoice before the start of the rental period which will have our bank details on it for EFT and a link to our secure credit card processor for credit card payments.
Why must I pay the first 3 months up front?
We have incurred costs to get your website live and if you decide to cancel in the first 3 months it is only fair that we mitigate some of these costs.
For this reason the first 3-months rental period is considered non-refundable.
Should you choose to pay your rental monthly. We will ask you to pay the first 3 months up-front before going live to cover this non-refundable period. Your next rental payment is due at month 4.
What happens if I don't pay on time?
If we don’t receive your payment by the start of a rental period, we will send you a reminder email. If we don’t hear from you, we will turn off your website and replace it with a “coming soon” notice. If you are experiencing a payment problem or would like to change the payment frequency, please let us know so that we can keep your website up & running.
What happens if I haven't paid for 30 days?
After 30 days of non-payment of your rental period, your website will be removed from the hosting environment and placed in archive. Your Domain Name will be held in the hosting environment and available for you to transfer to another host. When the DomainName is due for renewal you will be able to opt for renewal or deletion as appropriate.
How do I cancel my rental?
You may cancel your Rental Service Plan at anytime by email notification. The rental will cease on the last day of the month in which your cancellation notification is received.
Can I temporarily pause my rental?
Yes you can. If you would like to put your website on hold for a period of time, please send us an email telling us when to stop your website and when you would like to restart your website (if known). During the on-hold period we will replace your website with a “coming soon” notice. When you are ready to restart your website, please get in touch and we will email you an invoice for the coming rental period. Once paid, your website will be restored.
Please note that you can’t pause your website for less than a month, plus the content of the restored website will be the same as when you went on hold. Content changes will be in line with the timescale of your Service Plan.
How do you set up the email account?
We will set up one or more email accounts depending on your requirements.
The email address will be email@example.com (or .com, .co.uk etc) Our default “name” is hello, but you can change this to whatever works for you eg info or your own name.
The first email account will be a “catch-all” account so that firstname.lastname@example.org will come to you. Subsequent email accounts will be name-specific to receive.
How will I access my emails?
You will be given the login to your webmail account so that you can receive & send emails online. If you want to use a PC-based app (eg Microsoft Outlook) to read/write emails, then we will give you instructions on how to configure this.
